We wanted to let you know about some of the projects that we have been working on and what you can see coming up in the next couple of months.
1) New Email Address: communications@qrra.org
Over the next month or so, we will be migrating our gmail account over to a new email address: communications@qrra.org
Laura Peacock will send notification when the switch is made. After this, if you don’t hear from us in a while, please check your spam folder in your email account to see if our emails are being sent there accidently. (We will also check on our end because google usually does send us notification if an email doesn’t go through).
2) Community Chipping Day and the Garage Sale - Sign up now!
The signup pages for the Community Chipping Day (March 16th) and the QRRA Annual Garage Sale (April 25th) are now open. See: Events | QRRA
So let your neighbours and strata council know - everyone is welcome to sign up!
IMPORTANT: please sign up early .. if we don’t get at least 25 participants for either event by March 1, we won’t be able to proceed.
3) FireSmart Designation Approved For 2025!
FireSmart Canada has approved Quail Ridge for FireSmart designation for 2025.
We had almost a 100% increase in the number of people that participated in the Summer Challenge!
We also wanted the community to know that while the prescribed burn for the Linear Parks did not happen in 2025, the Fire Department has assured us that it is still planned and that the application with the province is good for 3 years. Once we are notified of a potential date, we will notify the community.
Finally, stay tuned. Jackie Venter is in the process of planning the next big community FireSmart cleanup to be held, potentially, in June.
4) Social Club Survey
Thank you to everyone that responded to our November / December survey about the communities' interest in social clubs. The survey has now closed.
We had 45 respondents which represents almost a 20% response from membership! Of these, 33 people are interested in a variety of social clubs. The social clubs that we will be focusing on in 2026 are the ones that garnered the most responses: Game Clubs, Pot Lucks, Wine Tasting and Spirit Tasting.
In mid February, Terry Wiechert will be contacting those of the survey respondents that expressed an interest in getting together to set up a games social club first Then, over the coming months, he’ll focus on the other 3 programs.
5) Community Wish List
At the September AGM, we announced that we would be working on the responses from the Community Wish List Survey in our 2025/26 year.
Number 1 on the wish list (at 39% of all survey respondents) was support for us to approach the City to improve recreations and sports offerings in Quail Ridge. The main focus was split between creating a community space for fitness training and meeting spaces as well as developing community pickleball and tennis courts.
The City has reviewed the results and has notified us that development of enhanced courts are scheduled for 2028 at the Parkinson Recreation Centre. In terms of smaller hub facilities, the next planned ones to be developed closest to Quail Ridge will be at the Glenmore Recreation Park, with nine courts to open in 2026.
The City has also stated that there is no development planned in the 10-year capital plan for the creation of a community space for fitness training and meeting spaces in our area. Your suggestions will be included in its planning options for consideration for future years, as it is balanced against suggestions from other sport and community groups.
Next steps: QRRA will share the results of the community wish list with others in the area (Okanagan Golf Course, UBCO, real estate agents, etc) to potentially help create interest for the development of private service offerings.
