Meeting called to order at 6:36 pm
In attendance: Laura Peacock, David Naples, Jackie Venter, Gord Walter, Bruce Warren
Regrets: None.
Note: Some of these initiatives will be made possible with the financial support of the City of Kelowna.
1. The Executive for 2024/25 was chosen: Laura Peacock President, Gord Walters Vice President, David Naples Treasurer, Jackie Venter Director at Large, Bruce Warren Director at Large.
2. The board discussed the workshop held on November 5 with City of Kelowna as part of the Neighbourhood Association Affiliation Pilot Program (NAAPP). Laura and Gord attended. Good workshop put on by Heather Keam of ABCD Canada. The board discussed some of the concepts and how this might apply in Quail Ridge.
3. Membership 2024 renewals / membership – David provided an update on the 2024 / 25 renewals – approximately half done. Laura will assist with a mid December second reminder notice. The board also discussed how the current website platform might be utilized to simplify membership management. Bruce will report out at the next meeting.
4. Director Recruitment – A director recruitment campaign will happen in 2025. Separate from this, the board will investigate doing volunteer recruitment for specific projects like the garage sale, FireSmart, etc.
5. Banking – Jackie Venter will be added as the second signatory on the bank account.
6. Annual General Meeting – a brief post mortem was conducted on the AGM. The annual filing with the registrar is complete. The board discussed alternative locations but in the end, decided that the Four Points is a good location and place to meet.
7. Quail Crossing signage – Gord stated that there are only 12 signs left. These will be offered to the membership again in the spring.
8. Projects for 2024/25
a) Replace 0ld bulletin board – Laura will contact the City of Kelowna to determine if it has an easement around the other post boxes / who we should be contacting.
b) Garage Sale – Tentative date: first weekend in May 3.
c) Evacuation route - Have a representative from GolfBC. Laura to contact UBCO and GEID next.
d) FireSmart – 2024 plan approved and submitted. FireSmart Canada should start the review early in the new year to determine if Quail Ridge qualifies for 2024 activities. In the spring, QRRA will follow up with Dr. Mathieu Bourbonnais, with UBCO’s Centre for Wildfire Coexistence, about the installation of fire sensors. The board discussed the challenge the QRRA FireSmart team will face in 2025 – how to market to Owners the need to focus on the 1.5 meters immediately around their homes when the past focus has been on pine needles on the golf course. The previous estimates that the board received for region wide pick up were well in excess of $8000. Jackie will contact Peter Stantic (Kelowna Fire Department) to discuss use of the City’s chipper and the need to have City pick up of conifer AND deciduous fire debris (the City focuses on conifers, only). An alternative idea would be to contact the City to purchase vouchers for the LandFill that we hand out.
5. Next meeting: TBD
6. Terminate meeting at 8:15PM.
