 1.     Membership

a.     Community wish list – discussed outcomes.  Will reorganize into categories that match up with City of Kelowna departments and then post online and ask for a membership vote.  Will encourage members to tell non members to vote as well.  Will identify areas that we as an association will probably not be able to do anything about but will keep these on the voting list to just see how these items are voted on…and then likely try and find a way to pass the results on to the appropriate departments.

b.     AGM – Discussed potential location and dates and speakers.  Tentatively September 11th.

c.      Membership renewals – will send out within the next week.  Laura and David to coordinate.

d.     FYI – Meeting set for July 23rd to talk with Brianna Marshinew to discuss possibility and cost of reconfiguring website so we can have people “like” us online and follow us.

2.     Projects for 2025

a)     Bulletin boards – On hold.  Will include the bulletin boards in Community wish list vote.

b)     FireSmart clean up of pathway from Country Club to Capistrano –Jackie discussed next steps.  Has agreement with property owners.  Small budget set aside.  Laura will investigate costs of volunteers’ insurance.  Will set date when the Fall chipping date is set with the City of Kelowna Fire Department

c)     Evacuation Plan 5 year review:

a.     Meeting with Angela Han (Community Engagement Strategist) and Shelley Kayfish (Director, Campus Operations and Risk Management) on July 16th.  Confirmed that UBC had zero concerns about the use of the service road to the Fire department’s use of it to access Quail Ridge in the event of an emergency.  Also reaffirmed commitment to work together with GolfBC on coordinating FireSmart activities, with a focus on the Linear trails and the weather / fire sensors from Dr. Mathieu Bourbonnais.  Will follow up on installation of these sensors in the Fall.  As well, will work the university to set up a meeting with the golf course and the academy to see if there are any firesmart efforts that the 4 of us can work on together.

b.     Meeting with Dennis Craig (Assistant Fire Chief), Jason Twamley (FireSmart Rep) and Brittany Siebbert (Regional Emergency Program Manager, City of Kelowna) on July 17th to review and update existing evacuation plan.  Confirmed GolfBC and UBC’s concurrence of the plan.  Brittany’s team will update parts so that it meets current requirements.   Will coordinate Fall chipping program with Jason. Discussed weather/fire sensors and our focus on the Linear Park system.

3.     Other

Empty spot on the meridian at the entrance to the community: City of Kelowna confirmed that the irrigation line is damaged and repair is almost impossible, given the cost of tearing up the roadway.  But maybe something on “wish list” that might work, subject to the memberships’ vote.

Waiting on word from the City about the empty banner poles at the roundabout at the base of the hill.

Waiting on feedback from the City about the traffic issues at corner of Capistrano and Quail Ridge Boulevard, specifically identifying a way to prevent drivers from cutting the corner turning into the blind corner just up Capistrano Drive.

Waiting of feedback from the City’s Long Range Planning department about questions on future development.

4.     Next meeting:  TBD
