Update: September 2018

Mark Your Calendars

QRRA AGM to be held Thursday October 11th, 7:00 PM at the Sheraton Four Points. Details and agenda to follow.

Help Us Recruit New Members

This week, the QRRA membership form was mailed to everyone living in the Quail Ridge community to encourage non-members to join.

Please help us recruit new members. Membership with the QRRA means joining an active network of members that promotes information and issues critical to our community. The QRRA offers a variety of services and opportunities for participation, such as our AGM, FireSmart Community initiatives, annual garage sale, monthly updates and more.

The membership form is a start - the best method of advertising and recruitment is still word of mouth from satisfied members. Who else is better to extol the value of membership than you?

Thank you!

Glenmore Firehall Update

As you may remember, in January, Kelowna firefighters passed along their sincere thanks to the Quail Ridge residents for their time and effort in participating in the email and letter campaign to City Council to upgrade the Glenmore firehall to a fully staffed facility.

One of our members, Gord Walter, received this update regarding the plan: “Fire Hall Eight at 550 Valley Road North is now staffed 24/7 by career members of the Kelowna Fire Department, with the aim to improve emergency response time to the Glenmore neighbourhood. It will primarily serve the area ranging from North Glenmore, Wilden, McKinley and UBC Okanagan. It was previously operated by dedicated paid-on-call volunteer firefighters, and is now staffed with 16 career firefighters.

The new fire hall planned for the Glenmore area is forecast for completion in 2024 (see page 40 of the 10-Year Capital Plan). Staff are currently working on determining the final location and layout in anticipation of beginning construction in 2022, following review of analytics, risk assessments and growth projections for the community. Information on the City’s 2030 Infrastructure Plan and 10-Year Capital Plan that forecasts the City’s infrastructure needs from 2018 – 2027 can be found here on our websites.”

Again, thank you to everyone that took the time to get the word out to the City last October!

Fall Clean Up Events Organized by the Regional District of Central Okanagan

Two events are planned for the month of September.

1) the Regional Waste Reduction office is organizing a Trunk Sale at Okanagan College. Admission is free. Individuals participating will do the selling from the trunk of their car, van or back of their pickup.

Seller Registration: September 4th

2) Recycle any old, unused tires that may be a breeding ground for mosquitoes around your property! The RDCO and Tire Stewardship BC are again joining forces to provide a one-stop tire drop-off event for any old vehicle tires with or without rims.
